Organization’s brief history

Solidarity Youth Voluntary Organization (SOYVO), is a Somali national, non-profit registered NGO whose mandate is to promote the country’s development agenda in regard to youth economic empowerment, with a major mandate to build self reliance amongst the marginalized people in particular Children, Youth and Women of Somaliland/ Somalia. It is committed in addressing the advocacy, development, capacity building, mobilization, and the community as whole. In addition, it plays a vital role of the economic and social development, and democratic approach of Somali community.

Major activities are focused on Human rights, Peace building & Culture, Democracy, Livelihood- Micro-finance, Enterprise, HIV/AIDS prevention, Child education, Non-formal education and conflict resolution to create enabling environment for development, advocate for good governance and gender equity.


SOYVO’s headquarters is in Burao Togdheer region in Somaliland, and has well-equipped offices and a youth multipurpose activity canter. The organisation also has two sub offices which are in Erigavo (Sanag region) and Ainabo (Sool region) districts

Promoting dialogue, build a culture of peace and freedom of expression:

Safe to Speak: Securing Freedom of Expression in All Media: 20th World Press Freedom Day on 3rd May 2013. Since then, SOYVO is working on freedom of expression of opinion; protection of liberty and rights of Media in Somaliland. SOYVO is committed to exchange free opinion and knowledge and to promote the process for freedom of expression through Sound and photographs.  Under funded by The National Endowment for Democracy (NED)

Baraarug Newsletter is Somali version monthly magazine which produced by SOYVO; aims in strengthening its efforts to bring about positive changes in the Youth Participation at Local level to exchange free opinion and knowledge and to promote the process for freedom of expression and other social issues by developing their potential;
