The organization is involved in diverse activities that are of great benefit to the society.
Education
SOYVO strives to reduce the rate of illiteracy by improving the quality of education amongst various community member groups through promotion of informal education.
This is achieved by coordinating various stakeholders for access of social and financial education for children, adult literacy classes for women, English Management Courses for the youth and distribution of learning materials for schools.
The out of school youth are mobilised to join Technical and Vocational Education and Training [TVET] programs in skill development, personal financial management and small business enterprise courses. Further, non –financial support is given to any organisation involved in voluntary education activities and create student union information sharing systems through debates, meetings, and newsletter production.
Sports
We engage youth in positive sport-based activities that promote health, education, civic engagement, and leadership. The activities are also designed to prevent youth from access and use of drugs and improve on sports management systems in the country. Which is chieved through partnerships with well-wishers, government, non – governmental organisations and the private sector.
Health
SOYVO engages in health advocacy, organising provision of medical services, social and psychological services. Other activities include material and financial support, community education and information services and training on HIV / Aids education, sexual reproductive health, eradication of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), First Aid management skills. Communities training on how to take full responsibilities on matters that relate and affect their health by taking precautionary measures.
Water, Sanitation and hygiene
SOYVO plays a catalytic role in championing the communities, stimulating demand and promoting change through improved access to drinking water and sanitation, and promotion of good hygiene practices. This is achieved through sensitisation forums in schools, mosques, public places like markets, organised public meetings and villages. Environmental community sensitisation
Democracy and Governance
SOYVOs goal is to strengthen and enhance the fundamental principles of democracy, educate and increase citizen participation in democratic processes and encourage accountability and transparency in government. Through civic education, citizens are educated on the need to become the ultimate watchdogs of public governance, being actively engaged with the political processes and participating in structured dialogue with government and the private sector. Citizens are encouraged to fully participate in the affairs of the nation to enjoy the benefits envisaged in the Constitution fully.
Natural Resource Management & Environmental Conservation
Through sensitisation workshops and campaigns, SOYVO creates awareness among the public on current environmental issues and solutions, protection of natural resources and equitable use of resources. They also disseminate information through newsletters, brochures, articles, audiovisual etc.
Human Rights
Sensitisation campaigns are conducted to educate all communities, refugees and foreigners on their fundamental human rights, and offer advice and assistance to victims of human violation in filing cases and writing petitions.
Humanitarian Emergency Response
SOYVO is keen to act when communities are faced with an event or series of events that represents a critical threat to the health, safety, security or wellbeing of a community or other large group of people, usually over a wide area. They mobilise resources from partners and stakeholders to counter the emergency. This can be in terms of materials in-kind, personnel or funds.
Peace Building and Conflict Management
Development of a wide range of conflict prevention and resolution activities, such as monitoring of conflict and providing early warning of potential violence. Facilitating dialogue between opposing parties; playing a direct mediation role; strengthening local institutions for conflict resolution; and helping to improve the rule of law and democratic processes in areas affected by violent conflict.
Entrepreneurship
Promotion of entrepreneurship activities among poor communities, youth, women and persons with disabilities will be enhanced. The entrepreneurs will be supported through entrepreneurial trainings and linked to other business development services, including marketing and financial linkages.
Agriculture and Food Security
Promotion of agricultural best practices among farming community members for optimal production. This is in terms of agricultural husbandry, which will lead to the advancement of enterprise in agriculture, value chain development, agribusinesses and other related projects. Livestock management will be enhanced to meet nutritional and financial needs of individual households among the poor communities. Further, there will be trainings and sensitisation meetings in animal husbandry, promotion of crop livestock integration, development of small livestock and their related value chains.
